The Mirror
by Shelby Emerson, age 12

Leah Johnson was your average girl from the The United Sates. She loved to play sports such as soccer basketball. On this particular day, though, Leah would not be playing any sports because rain was flooding the streets and it was her job to clean out the Johnson's large attic full of old items such as old wardrobes.

Leah worked quietly for about an hour until she came across something very odd and unique. It was what appeared to be an old, antique mirror. She polished it off with her shirt and glanced at her reflection. Leah's plain, brunette hair was a mess. She then mumbled, "I wish I could be outside. This is so boring." With that Leah felt a bit dizzy and light-headed for a moment and then she appeared to be outside!

Leah rubbed her eyes. What in the world just happened? She looked down at the little silver mirror, still clutched in her hand. That was really weird. Leah thought to herself for a minute. No, she thought. This mirror couldn't have the power to transport me. She finally decided there was only one way to find out for sure.

Leah glanced down at the small mirror. "I wish I were in the attic," said Leah. She got that dizzy feeling and within seconds she was back in her attic. "Cool!" She exclaimed. Leah just couldn't resist! She'd always been curious about the future! "I wish I was in year three-thousand-three!" she said, and then she opened her eyes.

She didn't know where she was. Leah had appeared to be in the same room, only it was different. There was glass floor, there were different-looking inventions everywhere, only a few of them Leah recognized, a digital camera and a box in the back corner that had Leah Johnson scribbled on the top, it was Leah's belongings from two-thousand-three. Leah rummaged through it to find all of her collectable cards and other items!

But then a flash flew across the room and interrupted Leah's actions. All of a sudden Leah was back in year two-thousand-three. She looked down at the mirror in her hands but instead of her reflection Leah found small print that read "The mirror was used the limit, now it is finished". Leah was confused but later realized that the mirror had an hour left of time traveling and then it was. dead.
