RIF helps children of all ages discover the pleasures of
reading. In each project, children and young people up to
the age of 19 choose up to three free books a year to take
home and keep at special events. These events feature fun,
high-quality activities, which may involve authors, poets
or storytellers.
Children are helped to find a new book
that they are genuinely interested in - it may be a factual
book about football, dinosaurs or animals; fantasy or adventure
stories; a tie-in to a popular television programme or film;
a joke book or a book of poems. RIF provides children with
the opportunity to discover their own preferences and identify
favourite authors to read again and again.
Each RIF child also receives:
a drawstring bag for their books
a bookmark, stickers and a set of book plates.
